State-of-the-Art Endurance Center Grand Opening Today – Feb. 25

Endorphin Fitness hired us to help market their Grand Opening event. Given a very limited marketing budget, we recommended and ran a sensible Word of Mouth (WOM) marketing campaign for the event. The campaign included:

  • Writing and distributing press releases to local media, publishers, key contacts (or connectors), associations, and sponsors
  • Regular website updates to keep relevant content front and center; and, most importantly, consistent with all other event communications
  • Preparing compelling content for the company’s email newsletter
  • Numerous “one-up” email communications, etc.
  • Planning and marketing FREE seminars
  • Managing a part-time marketing assistant
  • Preparing several handouts and fliers
  • Although no money was spent on print or television advertising, more than 300 people attended a very successful event. If you would like more inforamtion on effective and economical WOM campaigns, please contact eoecho at your convenience. We’ll be glad to help you plan and implement a WOM campaign. Continue reading

U.S. Government Launches One-Stop Federal Website

On FirstGov.gov you can search millions of pages from federal and state governments, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories. Most of these pages are not available on commercial websites.

FirstGov has the most comprehensive search of government anywhere on the Internet. It also provides a Spanish-language portal РFirstGov en Espa̱ol. In addition, entrepreneurs can find out how to do business with the federal government through the FirstGov Business Gateway.

Vintage Magazine Ads Have you seen the Marlboro Man lately?

    Old Magazine Ads – Magazine-Ads.com

If you’re into marketing or work for an ad agency, this is a great site to peruse. The retailer sells the original vintage (and new) magazine ads that are cut right out of the magazines.

So what’s your favorite ad? A vintage Benz ad, Caddillac, movie ad, or magazine cover? Or, how about a 1971 Marlboro man ad (you don’t see those anymore). They have a large selection. Enjoy!

Tap water is as good as – if not better – than bottled water. Want proof?

The power of marketing is evident in the $10 billion dollar bottled water industry. On the outside you see a pristine mountain glacier and on the inside, “tap water” from Greenville, Tennessee. That’s the case for “Glacier Clear Water,” but we shouldn’t just pick on them. The situation is similar for many bottled water products.

So is bottled water a better tasting, healthier, and safer product than your municipal water supply (i.e., tap water)? Numerous scientific studies have been completed and the conclusions are clear. Continue reading

Why are fitness professionals so obsessed with target heart rates?

You’ll often read that your target heart rate goal should be from 60 to 80 percent of your maximum heart rate when you exercise. And, to obtain the health benefits gained from cariovascular exercise your workout plan should include a goal of three to five workouts per week – 20 to 60 minutes (excluding warm-ups).

Although athletes often exceed the 60-80 percent target to build endurance, the average person gains little additional value when their heart rate exceeds this range. Exceeding the target range puts undue stress on your body and increases your potential for injury. The heart is simply working too fast and your body has a difficult time replenishing oxygen. On the flip side, exercise below the 60 percent target has fewer benefits for those exercising on a regular basis. Continue reading

US Olympic Committee Names Chris Witty to Carry U.S. Flag

US Olympic Committee Names Chris Witty to Carry U.S. Flag

The U.S. Olympic Team elected five-time Olympian Chris Witty as the flag bearer to lead the USA delegation into Friday night’s Opening Ceremony in Torino.

“To be able to lead the U.S. Team into the Opening Ceremonies is a great honor,” said Witty, a three-time Olympic medalist. “My peers elected me … I’m honored to represent them and I’m honored to represent our country.”

Witty, who was abused by a family friend for seven years as a young child, is an inspiration for all abused children across the country. She is actively involved in fund-raising and awareness campaigns for Good Touch, Bad Touch, a child abuse awareness program.

At this year’s Winter Games, Witty will compete in the speedskating 500, 1000 and the 1500-meter races. Her first competition is the 500-meter on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

    A little R & R

A week in Vail and Beaver Creek cures the winter blues. Vail is a great place to ski, but it’s expensive. Lift tickets are $90, but you can buy them in advance for $78 from this site. Beaver Creek – adjacent to Vail – was developed by the same company that developed Vail. They have record amounts of snow and the skiing is excellent.

I was lucky this year. A group of high school friends invited me to join them in a “ski in-out condo” located right on the slopes of Beaver Creek. Really, really, nice place with hot tubs, state-of-the-art kitchen, bathrooms/showers in every room, etc.

If you want to check on the weather and snow conditions in Vail and Beaver Creek visit www.snow.com

The vision of Vail Valley began when the founder of Vail, Pete Siebert, dreamed of creating a European-style ski village in the pristine area he discovered while serving with the 10th Mountain Division during World War II. His dream became a reality in 1965 when he opened the nearby Vail ski resort, and after the success of Vail, Pete’s team decided to extend
his vision to Beaver Creek in 1980. Today, millions of visitors from all over the world flock to the area.

I hope to join them again next year.
